Elkhorn Slough

A slough is a meandering, slow-moving body of water in a tide flat, with a muddy bottom. Elkhorn Slough is located on the Monterey Bay. It is a great example of the tension between natural ecosystems and human development. The slough is bordered by natural wetlands, farms, a power plant, and much more.

An independent foundation provides a unique level of funding for the slough, so it has very rich programs of conservation, education and research.
