Local Control Accountability Plan

We want your input on how we allocate our funding for SLZ students!

Please join our school community and let your voice be heard on Tuesday, January 24th at 6:00 p.m. in the library.

Each year parents, teachers, and support staff come together to determine how state funding will be used to benefit our students.

The state of California began a new process for decision making in 2013 that gives every district the chance to make local decisions about how their funding is used to support district goals.

In San Lorenzo, we are working towards meeting district goals in the areas of Student Achievement, Student Engagement, Basic Services and Family Engagement.

You are invited to learn more about the activities that are happening at San Lorenzo High School, and in San Lorenzo to meet these goals.  You will also find out how to make sure that your ideas and feedback are included in the 2017-2018 District LCAP.

Please join us on January 24th and share your thoughts and ideas with us!

IMPORTANT INFORMATION REGARDING TELEPARENT MESSAGES-

It has come to our attention that some families may not be getting the weekly Friday Principals Message, and other important reminders that are sent via our automated phone system.  This service uses the main phone number information listed on your emergency form.  In most cases it is your home phone number that is listed.  If you would like to verify the number being called, or have it changed to your cell phone number, please stop by our attendance office for assistance.

If you have ever pressed the opt out button when receiving calls you have to opt back in to resume this important service-

Call 1-855-502-7867 from the PHONE USED TO OPTED OUT ON – this is important!  If you were on a cell phone when the call came in and opted out you have to call from that same cell phone to opt back in.

If the call was opted out from a house phone you need to call the number above from the house phone to opt back in.

Please follow the prompts on the message and then it will be fixed.

If you need further assistance, please call Marlene Garcia at 510-317-3141.

Thank you!

Essay Contest

Should the School Day Start Later?

Both the American Academy of Pediatrics and the Center for Disease Control recommend that schools start later in the day - 8:30 am or later to be exact. In part, this is because recent research has shown that when students sleep more, they experience many benefits including better grades, improved physical and mental health, and even fewer car crashes. Some schools have moved their start times later and have seen other positive results too, including decreased tardiness and attendance issues. However, there are also disadvantages to shifting when schools start. A later start time means school ends later in the day, which can decrease the amount of time students have for homework, extracurricular or community activities and family time. In addition, a later start time does not guarantee that students will actually sleep more, and many argue that learning time management is an essential skill for students about to enter college or the workforce. There are also logistical challenges to consider, including bus schedules, the cost to schools and districts, the inconvenience to families, and even safety concerns like students walking home in the dark. The debate about school start times has been heating up this year, and LegiSchool wants to hear from you. Should the school day start later? How would this affect you and your peers?

 Postmark deadline: November 18, 2016

  • Contest open to 11th and 12th grade students in California
  • Essay must be no more than 2 pages, typed and double spaced
  • Entry form must accompany entry

PRIZES: Ten winning essayists will receive roundtrip travel to Sacramento to take part in our Legislative Summit on March 8, 2017. Winners will have the chance to meet with state leaders and share their thoughts on this important topic. Parent/guardian permission is required for participation in this event. Details can be found online!
