What Do Explorers Do?

The Explorers learn all about law enforcement through bi-weekly classes and field trips to the Alameda County Recruitment Center Training Facility.  However, Explorers do much more.  As a service to the local and school community, the Explorers also help a smooth flow or provide a show of support and community events and sports events.  Just look for the Explorers in their uniforms!

Explorers on the Career Experience Path!

The Alameda County Sheriff Explorers Post 1853 is established at San Lorenzo High School.  With most of the Explorers from San Lorenzo High School, some from Castro Valley High School, some from Arroyo High School, and a couple of Explorers from Chabot College, the program is brimming with energy and commitment.

Post 1853 is partnered with the Law, Leadership, and Culture Academy of San Lorenzo High School.  The program is led by Deputy Silva.  The Explorers meet every other Wednesday to learn all there is to know about what it takes to be involved in a career of law enforcement.

At least once a month, Explorers are able to experience the "real" training of a sheriff by having access to the Alameda County Sheriff training facility in Dublin.  Explorers also get into uniform to provide security at sports games and other school or community events.

If you have questions about the Explorer program, you may contact Ms. Shimada (LLC Coordinator and Explorer program assistant) at sshimada@slzusd.org.  Or, visit the LLC Academy page for more information.
